YARN BASES

All of these bases make me incredibly proud- all of my wool is mulesing free and I only partnered with mills who were upfront about their working standards- paying employees living wages, clean working environments, care for the wellbeing of anyone who's touched this wool, from the sheep all the way to my studio. Ethical production is at the core of my brand, and is reflective of my personal values. Please read more in my ethics page, linked below.

And, if you wondered about wear...I knit swatches for all potential bases in 2023, and left them in purses, bras (lol...for itch!!!), really wore them out. I selected the best of that bunch, which you'll read about below. And, as someone who's sensitive, I carry "superkid" mohair, which can be difficult to find from dyers as it is the softest classification of mohair on the market...the softest of any mohair- most mohair is simply "mohair" or "kid mohair". My most popular bases are Signature Soft and Cashmere in both Sock and DK weights. I truly believe my bases are a cut above the rest, and I'm sure you'll find them quite pleasant as well.

Fingering Weight- Wool and Plant Bases

Augustine's Signature Soft Sock

ABOUT THE BASE- My ultra-soft sock base is the perfect pairing of 18.5 micron, extrafine superwash South American Merino, with 10% recycled nylon. It has a cashmere like feel, thanks to the extrafine merino. This base is softer and a bit more plump than Pristine Sock. Signature Soft Sock is my most popular base, and the most versatile of all of my bases. I highly recommend it for socks, baby items, blankets, and even hardwearing garments. *before 2/2026 this base was 85/15 wool to nylon but the supplier changed it slightly to 90/10. There's no distinguishable difference in my opinion.

ABOUT THE DYE- Dye takes exactly as expected on this base, but a bit more vibrantly in comparison to Pristine Sock which can be a bit paler, and speckles have excellent definition on this yarn.

Augustine's Pristine Sock

ABOUT THE BASE- The perfect sock yarn! This 4 ply yarn is a blend of 75/25 superwash South American Merino and recycled nylon.

The superwash fine merino is soft yet sturdy with its nylon counterpart, balancing this blend perfectly. This blend is a classic sock blend. I have two sock bases available, Pristine and Signature Soft...this one is an all around winner. If you're looking for something softer and plumper, check out Signature Soft. Both hold up very well, but Signature Soft may fuzz up a little more overtime. Being a little fuzzy is a lot different than pilling...both bases are pill resistant.

ABOUT THE DYE- Pristine Sock always dyes just a bit paler than any of my other superwash bases. Speckles wonderfully.

Augustine's Soft Singles

My most plush, lofty base with a beautifully elegant drape. This single ply base is 100% superwash South American fine merino, 21.5 micron (softer than average). I would consider this base quite warm, since it's a bit airy. Some claim singles does not hold shape, and at this time I have made 7 sweaters that are all heavily worn. They all look like new, and I attribute this to its firm twist, adding structure and durability. This base paired with mohair or suri is my favorite and go to garment fabric. Feels like a warm hug. Has the best bloom of all of my superwash bases, I've used it in even a 17 gauge project since it has the ability to fill out so nicely. My opinion is that this fingering weight yarn can fit up to light worsted weight patterns well because of it's bloom.

Soft Singles is a bit fuzzy- not so pilly but fuzzy, and blooms very, very nicely. I notice Soft Singles absorbs dye quickly, which gives a nice effect, especially for tonal colorways. Speckles feather out softly on this base but remain well defined, still. Colorways typically look slightly more vibrant or slightly deeper in this base.

Augustine's High Twist

Augustine's High Twist is a 2 ply superwash 100% South American Merino, 21.5 micron (softer than average)

The twist is nice and firm, yet this base is buttery soft. I love it for textured projects. It has excellent stitch definition. This base is quite strong. I would recommend this one for tees, baby projects, and even socks!

My favorite thing about dyeing this base is how the twist results in dye being a bit softer towards the inner side of the twist. This doesn't change much about how the colorway looks worked up, but adds some nice visual interest while you're working. Speckles come out crisp and happy on this base.

Augustine's Cashmere Sock

Cashmere Sock is one of my absolute favorites. All of my yarns are great yarns, but this one is noticeably softer than the other wool fingering bases, thanks to the cashmere and ultrafine merino blend. Specifically, 10% cashmere, 80% 18.5 mic extrafine superwash merino, 10% recycled nylon. So, so soft!

This is my go-to for single stranded garments and shawls! Cashmere Sock makes excellent socks, since it has a little recycled nylon for durability, and may fuzz a little, since it's so soft. Generous yardage here, too!

The different fibers in this yarn are blended exceptionally well, which is helpful because cashmere is known for pilling. This great blending helps mitigate pilling. I do expect fuzziness from Cashmere Sock overtime, but never excessive pilling.

This base takes dye just like Soft Sock and High Twist, speckles may be just a tad softer, but I truly don't feel it's a noticeable difference. This base is a joy to work with as a dyer and a fiber artist. I think you"ll be absolutely thrilled with it.

Augustine's Luxury Camel Silk

This yarn is absolute pure luxury. Have you ever tried baby camel?! Stunning drape and a bit of luster. This is a well-balanced 4 ply yarn, from responsibly sourced 50% Italian silk and 50% baby camel. Fibers from camel and alpaca are quite similar in the ways they behave, but camel is a bit softer and doesn't experience much growing overtime.

This yarn is a gorgeous, glowing natural light brown. Showstopping shine from the silk, and all over golden brown color. The fibers are blended exceptionally well so the yarn looks consistent, not marled.

Thinking from a color analysis/ licensed stylist point of view- This yarn is golden to neutral toned, and I think it would complement cool, warm, and olive complexions beautifully.

This base is available undyed and is not featured in preorder. If you would like me to create a custom order for you in a dyed colorway, please reach out!

Augustine's Luxury Pure Silk

Have you seen the luster and felt the smoothness of pure silk in person?! It is incredible. This decadent yarn is 100% Grade A mulberry silk. My softest base, with amazing drape and strength, and a stunning sheen that feels as classy as it looks. And, interestingly enough, it has a very pleasant natural scent...similar to an esssence of a light green tea. I do have a silk looking alternative that is more cost effective, Augustine's ........

Luxury Pure Silk is offered undyed, but does take dye beautifully. Please reach out if you'd like it dyed as a custom order!

Augustine's Superkid Mohair Silk

I chose this base simply because it is wildly soft compared to any other mohair or kid mohair I could try! This blend of mohair and silk is ultra soft, and not at all scratchy (I'm sensitive to mohair, and can wear this one without issue)

I love pairing mohair silk with other bases, as it helps mitigate pilling and adds warmth, softness, and strength. I love a delicate halo! Superkid Mohair holds up very well, I have not experienced tangling on my sweaters knit with it. I do know some brands carry neat mohair brushes for a yearly refreshing!

Augustine's Suri Silk

I love this blend of baby Suri alpaca and Mulberry silk. This blend is quite soft and snuggly, the fibers are a bit fuzzier with a matte texture whereas mohair is silkier, slick and shiny. "Baby" refers to an alpaca's first sheering, usually around 2 years old.
